UniFi Protect Camera Stock Alerts: G5 Pro, AI DSLR & NVR Availability
Building a UniFi Protect surveillance system is one of the most rewarding — and most frustrating — projects in the Ubiquiti ecosystem. The cameras are excellent, the NVR software is polished, and the ecosystem integration is seamless. But getting your hands on the hardware requires patience, persistence, and ideally some automated help.
The challenge with Protect is that a complete system requires multiple components that are all hard to find: cameras, an NVR or Cloud Key, and sometimes additional storage. If you can find the cameras but not the NVR, the cameras are useless. This interdependency makes Protect one of the most frustrating product lines to build out.
The UniFi Protect Lineup
Here's what you're likely trying to buy, and what makes each product difficult to get:
G5 Pro
The G5 Pro is Ubiquiti's flagship outdoor/indoor camera. With 4K resolution, optical zoom, and advanced AI features (person, vehicle, and animal detection), it's the top choice for property surveillance. High demand from both residential and commercial buyers keeps it perpetually sold out.
AI DSLR
The AI DSLR pushes the boundaries of what a security camera can do. With a large sensor, interchangeable lens mount, and deep learning capabilities, it's aimed at users who want professional-grade image quality in a security platform. Its unique positioning means production volumes are limited.
UNVR Pro
The UNVR Pro is the network video recorder that ties everything together. Without an NVR (or a Cloud Key Gen2+), your Protect cameras can't record or run AI analytics. The UNVR Pro supports up to 20 cameras with 4 drive bays for extended retention. It's the critical piece that many Protect builds are waiting on.
Other Protect Cameras
The lineup also includes the G5 Bullet, G5 Turret Ultra, G5 Flex, and AI Viewport — all of which experience intermittent availability. Even the more affordable cameras can be hard to find during high-demand periods.
Why Protect Products Sell Out
- Security camera demand is surging — both residential and commercial sectors are investing heavily in surveillance infrastructure
- Complete system dependency — buyers often purchase multiple cameras plus an NVR in one order, depleting inventory faster
- Chip shortages and optical components — camera manufacturing depends on specialized image sensors and AI processing chips with constrained supply
- Ecosystem lock-in — once you have a UniFi Protect NVR, you need UniFi cameras, creating committed repeat buyers
- No third-party alternatives — Protect cameras only work with Protect NVRs and vice versa; there's no mixing and matching
Strategy: Monitor the Camera Category Page
Rather than creating separate monitors for every individual camera, the most efficient strategy is to monitor the cameras and NVRs category page on ui.com. This single page shows every Protect product, and a stock change on any item will trigger an alert.
With this approach, you'll catch:
- Any camera restocking — even models you weren't specifically watching
- NVR restocks alongside camera availability
- New product launches in the Protect lineup
- Price changes across the entire camera range
If you need to track specific products individually (for example, only the G5 Pro and UNVR Pro), you can add dedicated monitors for each. On the Starter plan ($7/month), you get 5 monitors — enough for the category page plus a few specific products.
Which Cameras to Prioritize
If you're starting a Protect build from scratch, here's the recommended monitoring priority:
- NVR first — without an NVR, cameras can't record. Monitor the UNVR Pro or Cloud Key Gen2+ as your top priority.
- Primary cameras second — whatever model you've chosen for your main deployment (G5 Pro for outdoor, G5 Bullet for budget outdoor, G5 Flex for indoor).
- Specialty cameras last — the AI DSLR and AI Viewport are nice-to-haves that can be added to an existing system later.
The goal is to get your core system operational. You can always add more cameras as they become available — the NVR supports adding cameras incrementally.
Setting Up Alerts for Multiple Protect Products
- Create a UIPing account — free for one monitor, paid plans for more capacity
- Add the cameras category page as your primary monitor for broad coverage
- Add individual product pages for your must-have items (G5 Pro, UNVR Pro)
- Set up push notifications — ntfy on your phone for instant personal alerts
- Add a Discord webhook if you're coordinating purchases with family members, a security team, or an IT department (see our Discord alerts guide)
With this setup, you'll catch any Protect restock on the category page and get redundant alerts for your priority items through their individual monitors.
Protect Monitoring Tips
- Check regularly for bundle deals — Ubiquiti occasionally offers camera starter kits or NVR bundles that include drives; these can be easier to grab than individual items
- Don't sleep on the NVR — the UNVR Pro is the bottleneck component. If it comes in stock, buy it even if you don't have cameras yet. Cameras restock more frequently.
- Watch the change log in your UIPing dashboard to identify restock patterns — some Protect products restock on a semi-regular cadence
- Consider the Cloud Key Gen2+ as an NVR alternative — it supports fewer cameras but is sometimes easier to find
